Action A.2

Assessing the problem of ALDFG in the rocky habitat of the northern Adriatic Sea

 This preparatory action includes both natural and artificial hard bottom habitats  along the Veneto coastline, and aims at gauging the problem regionally by evaluating ALDFG effects on local biodiversity richness.

Action A.2.1

Estimation of ALDFG presence

Duration: July 2013-October 2013
Activities:

  • To draw up questionnaires for diving associations and fishermen.
  • To analyze existing information taken from the database developed in A.1.1, from Blue box track and questionnaires.
  • To draw up a map of the most probably affected areas where ghost nets may be found.

Action A.2.2

Mapping ALDFG and quantifying impacts on biodiversity

Duration: November 2013-June 2014
Activities:

  • To carry out acoustic and photographic surveys to identify and map ALDFG in the most probably impacted areas.
  • To assess 3 diversity indexes on the encrusting zoobenthonic community.
  • To compare areas affected by nets with unaffected areas nearby.
